Later, Ferdinand Porsche developed an amphibian version of this car, called the Schwimmwagen. The light weight of this vehicle (about 1/2 ton) permitted crossing of muddy areas, since only two men were sufficient to keep this vehicle moving. For reconnaissance and liaison missions, water had to be crossed frequently, which was impossible with other vehicles.

The L.V.T. tracked vehicles (an acronym for Landing Vehicle Tracked) were developed to equip the United States armed forces, including the Army and the Marine Corps, with a suitable vehicle for amphibious operations capable of providing a good level of protection. Often known as "Amtrac," they were widely used in the Pacific theater against Japanese forces, as well as in the European theater during the last year of the war. The LVT-4, in particular, represented a significant improvement over previous versions. With the redesign, the engine was relocated to a central position, freeing up the rear of the vehicle for the addition of a ramp that allowed for the rapid loading and unloading of light vehicles or small-caliber artillery pieces to support landing troops. It was first produced in 1942 as a medium artillery piece and served the US Army throughout the Second World War. It could use different types of ammunition and had a maximum range of 14,600 meters. Very robust and reliable, it also proved to have good operational longevity. Article number: 510006477 Product: 1:35 Semovente L 40 47/32 The Semovente L40 was developed and further improvised using the hull of the L6/40 light tank to equip the Italian Regio Esercito with a fast armored vehicle, which was capable of providing artillery support and could also be deployed as a tank destroyer. In the construction phase of the L40, the original L6/40 tank turret was removed and the 47/32 Mod.1935 anti-tank cannon, similar to the one used on the "M" series tanks, was installed in the open casemate. The Semovente was notable for its small size, the plate and rivet armor used being typical of Italian production of the period and by a crew of only two men. Despite its battlefield performance being clearly inadequate in the face of enemy armor, it continued to be used during the Second World War by Italian Forces in Libya, Tunisia and also in the homeland campaign. Following the Armistice some units were deployed on secondary military tasks with the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe support troops.

For this reason, President Roosevelt ordered substantial production increases of the medium tank M4. The tank was not a completely new model, since it derived from the previous model M3 "Grant". The Sherman had some major improvements on the superstructure and on the armament as well as on the welded or cast hull. The "General Sherman", under which name the new tank was soon to be known, was equipped with a 75 mm gun, which was, however, insufficient against the German Tanks. This necessitated a series of changes, including a completely new turret as well as a 76 mm gun, which would be more efficient than the previous one. The new prototype was given the designation M4 A1. In January 1944, the new type was introduced. Until the end of the war, about 3400 pieces were produced. Notwithstanding the improvements, there were still many defects, one of them being the lack of protection. Frequently the crew was forced to protect the tank sides and the front with sandbags. In some instances the most exposed track sections were covered and sometimes even cement or steel blocks were attached. Tanks to its numerical superiority, the tank was able to match the German tanks, using its great maneouverability and its excellent 76 mm gun. M4 A1 took part in the invasion of Normandy and in all European theatres.
