Italeri A-7E Corsair II brings a classic U.S. Navy light attack aircraft into 1:72 scale with a finished length of 195 mm and the compact proportions that suit shelf display, cabinet presentation or a focused aircraft lineup. The assembly kit captures the A-7E, the final U.S. Navy production version of the Corsair II, with the broad intake under the cockpit and the swept wing layout that defined the aircraft on carrier decks. The original aircraft was developed in the first half of the 1960s to answer a U.S. Navy requirement for a new carrier-capable light attack aircraft, replacing the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk and the piston-powered Douglas A-1 Skyraider. It was derived from the Vought F-8 Crusade airframe and combined a 35° foldable swept wing with underwing hardpoints for conventional bombs, guided bombs such as Paveway, and air-to-surface missiles. On the A-7E version, improved operational capability also included compatibility with Harpoon anti-ship missiles and AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles.
