Extraordinairement beau d'un point de vue aérodynamique, il était équipé des puissants moteurs en ligne allemands DB 601, produits sur licence par l'industrie aéronautique italienne. Les nouvelles motorisations et la solidité du projet aéronautique ont équipé la Régie Aéronautique d’avions de chasse en mesure de combattre « à égal » avec ceux des alliées. Les performances de vol, comparées aux avions de chasse de la génération précédente équipés de moteurs radiaux tels que le Fiat G-50 et le Macchi Mc-200, étaient en effet bien meilleures. Le Macchi M.C. 205 Veltro est considéré par beaucoup comme le meilleur chasseur italien de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Pour mieux répondre aux exigences logistiques et de transport dans les conditions environnementales difficiles du front de l'Est, des tracteurs chenillés furent développés pour la Wehrmacht. Ces véhicules étaient capables de remorquer plusieurs types de véhicules et de transporter divers chargements, notamment des munitions et des vivres. La désignation officielle de cette série de véhicules, extrêmement polyvalents dans leur utilisation opérationnelle, était "Raupenschlepper-Ost" (tracteur à chenilles de l'Est). L'RSO fut principalement fabriqué par l'entreprise autrichienne Steyr, qui développa également une version antichar, simple et économique à produire, armée du redoutable et fiable canon PaK40 de 75 mm. The new German army made use of the experiences collected in World War I to realize their modern reconstruction based on motorization. In spite of the limitations of the Treaty of Versailles able commanders introduced civilian vehicles into the army, thus creating a motorized mentality. In 1940 already, a battalion consisting of 3 to 4 companies each equipped with 52 motorcycles with sidecars and 4 motorcy-cles (single), was integrated into the motorized infantry and the armored divisions. Moreover, motorcycles were present in nearly all other Wehrmacht units, especially with the reconaissance units and the command, as well as the pioneer and the supply units. Produced in 16.500 units, the BMW R 75 together with the Zijndapp KS 750 formed the nucleus of the motorized units on all theatres of operations, especially in Africa and in Russia. The motorcycle was armored with an MG 34 mounted on the sidecar. On the road, it reached a maximum speed of 92 Km/h.
