En Italie, une version similaire fut produite par Agusta Westland sous la désignation AB-212. Le AB-212 est un hélicoptère moyen à rotor principal bi-pale équipé de deux turbopropulseurs Pratt & Whitney PT6T délivrant 1.342kW. C’est une évolution du Model 205, la différence principale étant le fuselage ral-longé. Dans la première moitié des années 2000, le AB-212 fut considérablement amélioré pour accroître ses capacités opérationnelles. Il a été équipé de deux mitrailleuses de 7,62mm de sabord et les équipements défensifs ont été accrus avec des lance-leurres anti-missiles et des blindages en matériaux céramiques et Kevlar pour protéger l’équipage. Des AB-212 italiens ainsi modifiés sont utilisés en Afghanistan depuis 2006, au sein de Force Internationale d’Assistance et de Sécurité.
