The division of the British "Frankforce" used two regiments of Matilda tanks, heavily armored for those days, as backbone of the offensive during the battle. However, the Allied offensive was shattered against the determined resistance of the 7th Panzer Division, commanded by General Erwin Rommel, which, despite the suffered losses, strongly kept the position. Rommel, as German anti-tank guns were ineffective, used field Artillery and "flak" guns to knock out the British tanks. After the tactical defeat of Arras, the British troops retreated to the English Channel an started up the code-named Operation Dynamo to evacuate French territories. The United States supported the South Vietnam Government against the North Vietnamese regular troops flanked by the People’s Liberation Armed Forces, commonly known as Vietcong. The ground war started on 1965 and ended only ten years later with the fall of Saigon of the evacuation of the latest American soldiers. The long years of war, started with an aerial campaign of bombing on North Vietnam, were characterised by clashed and fighting in tough rural environment with a vegetation and a structure of villages that provided ideal conditions for the guerrilla war. Unfortunately a huge number of civilians were involved in the war and in the military operations. The American military supremacy, which saw the massive use of helicopters and armoured vehicles, was counterbalanced by the effective North Vietnamese and Vietcong tactics.

The French colonial policy of the XIX century was based on a progressive expansion in the North African and Sub-Saharan territories. At the end of the nineteenth century the Tuaregs opposed a fierce resistance to the French troops for the defense of their Central Saharan homeland. A lot of violent military clashes between the French Foreign Legion troops and the Tuareg Berber troops took place especially in the most remote areas of the Algerian territories were several outposts and forts were built by the French. However, the local populations could not compete against the more advanced weapons of French Army. The fighting ended with the signatures of the 1905 and 1917 treaties. The Historical events inspired a lot of novels and movies. The most famous movie could be considered "Beau Gest" of 1939 based on the 1924 novel of the same title by P.C. Wren.

The 1st and 29th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, part of the fifth Corps led by General Bradlay, landed on June 6th, 1944, on the beach between Vierville sur Mer and Sainte Honorine des Pertes. The beach is historically known with its codename in Operation Overlord: Omaha Beach. The models in this kit are represented with the typical individual equipment of U.S. Infantry: the M1 Garand rifle, the B.A.R. automatic rifle, the Thompson submachinegun and the 7,65mm Browning machinegun.
